Description:
Abstract: This point dataset represents trees on the Cornell University main campus in Ithaca, New York as of 2016. This dataset is a partial update of the 2012 Campus Tree Inventory. The central area of campus was reinventoried in 2016. Existing trees were remeasured (see the DBH_2016 and Spread2016 fields) and, in some cases, more precisely located. New trees were added. Trees removed since the 2012 survey are noted in a supplemental shapefile.
Purpose: The dataset provides an inventory of trees in the non-natural areas of the main Cornell Campus. This inventory can be used to support studies of species diversity, tree size and health, risks of invasive pests, and carbon sequestration.

Completeness_Report: The tree inventory covers the main area of the Cornell University campus in Ithaca, New York. It omits natural areas, areas maintained by the City of Ithaca, and the Cornell Botanic Gardens Arboretum.

Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: Most locations were originally collected with a consumer-grade GPS unit (3-5m accuracy), and rectified to 2007 orthoimagery (4ft accuracy). In isolated GPS "dead zones", locations were sketched on a map and later rectified to orthoimagery. All final tree locations are estimated to be at least within 3m accuracy. Further adjustments were made in 2016, rectified to 2012 and 2015 orthoimagery, then groundtruthed for accuracy.

Measurements of existing trees were added in the DBH_2016 and Spread2016 fields. Some existing trees were more precisely located, and rectified to 2012 and 2015 NYS Orthophotos. Records for new trees were added. Trees removed since the 2012 survey were removed from the main file and put into a supplemental shapefile.
